Siberian kitten - the charm of Siberia! The ancestors of this kitten are forest cats and domestic cats that lived in the vastness of Siberia. In the photo you see a typical thoroughbred Siberian kitten.

You cannot call him a little kitten even at the age of three months. The Siberian kitten has a strong bone and large paws with tufts of hair between the toes. I'm sure you can't confuse him with a different breed! Check out the splendor of Siberian cats!

All photos of Siberian kittens and Siberian cats used in this article are photos of animals from my Siberian cat’s cattery Talon. In this article, I tell you more about the Siberian cat breed, its character, coat, colors, feeding, care, price, nurseries, and also show many, many photos of Siberian kittens of different ages. Intrigued?

CHARACTER

I can talk about the nature of Siberian cats for hours! Despite their "wild" origins, they behave like real aristocrats. They are calm and good at dealing with stressful situations such as attending exhibitions or moving to a new home, Siberian forest cat kitten. Cats of this breed are distinguished by their loyalty and friendliness. It is also worth noting that they are excellent hunters, even if their prey is a toy mouse. Breeders started working with this breed more than 40 years ago, but these cats still remember the habits of their ancestors. They love to be outdoors, so we even built a special enclosure for safe walks.

WOOL AND GRUMING

The coat of Siberian cats is a royal coat with a thick double undercoat. The length of the coat ranges from medium to long. Siberian cats are not shorthaired. The fluffy tail makes the Siberian kitten inimitable among cats!

The coat of Siberian cats is so beautiful that there is a misconception “fluffy kitten = Siberian breed”. Therefore, you can come across the phrase "Siberian Fold kitten", although, of course, people are just looking for a long-haired fold-eared kitten.

Also, their wool is odorless, which is a definite plus in all respects!

It should be noted that the Siberian kitten has a super-coat that is not afraid of moisture. Your cute creation will look perfect in any weather. The harsh snowy Siberian winters, in the process of evolution, have presented this wonderful breed with truly royal gifts.

It will be enough just too regularly brush the Siberian to maintain its beauty and coat health, Siberian forest cat kitten. But, if you are preparing to take part with your Siberian cat in a cat show, then be prepared to regularly wash it with special shampoos. A show career requires this.

This is an aboriginal cat breed; therefore it has prohibited colors of cats. Usually, these are colors that could only be obtained by mating Siberian cats with other breeds of cats. For example: lilac, cinnamon, fawn and their combinations with white, as well as “Burmese” color. Traditional colors (monochromatic and patterned, color-point, as well as their variations with white) are allowed.

The blue color is one of the most popular and widespread in the Siberian breed of cats. Blue Siberian kittens are distinguished by a very beautiful "bluish" tint of gray, ashy tones of the fur coat. Add more stripes or spots - we will get an amazing beauty of the beast!

In 2016, our Vita gave birth to a charming litter of Siberian kittens "Hz" from Willie. There was a blue spotted kitten in this litter. This kitten looked almost blue. Only spots on its body showed that it was spotted. Eye color is orange.

BLACK COLORS

Black is a darker version of blue. This is one of the most common colors of Siberian cats. A rich color without a brown tint is highly appreciated.

Black marble Siberian kittens are always very easy to recognize by the following features:

They have the letter "M" on their forehead;

They also have a long strip along the entire spine;

They have 2 long stripes on the sides (they should be parallel to the stripe on the spine);

They have continuous necklaces around their necks;

They have butterflies on their shoulders;

They have nice wide circles on the sides;

They have 2 rows of "buttons" of the main color on the belly.

Look at this handsome man! This is a new breeding cat of our cattery. I have added several photos of him at different ages so that you can see the development of the color as the kitten grows, Siberian forest cat kitten. Eye color is orange.

BLACK TIGER (N 23)

This is the color of my first Siberian cat. Lazarus is my great love, my pride. The first World Champion in the international WCF system in our cattery and a multiple winner of cat shows. Representatives of this color have a number of similarities with the black marble color, which I described above:

They also have the letter "M" on their forehead;

They also have "buttons" on their belly;

They also have stripes on their feet;

They also have stripes on the tail.

But, a distinctive feature is that they do not have any stripes on the body at all. This color is the most common color of Siberian cats. This is the "wildest" tabby variety in this breed. Eye color is orange. I also added a few photos of children of the same color.

BLACK SPOTTED (N 24)

As I wrote above, spotted cats have clear dark spots on the sides. These spots should be rounded. The older the kitten gets, the clearer its spots should be, Siberian forest cat kitten. An adult Siberian cat with large round clear spots on the sides is ideal. Eye color is orange.

BLACK TIGER WITH WHITE (N 23 09)

Often at exhibitions you can see Siberian cats that have one or more white spots on their bodies. This is called "non-specific white spot" and is referred to as 09 in the color code. These colors are recognized; such cats can take part in exhibitions and become winners. It's just that there is a little white in their color (white spot) on any part of the body (non-specific distribution).

In 2018, our champion Tiramisu, who also has nonspecific white spot in color, gave birth to two kittens with nonspecific white spot from Lazar. Below you can see their photos, Siberian forest cat kitten. Despite the fact that their color is coded and named the same (black brindle with white - n 23 09), they look different due to the different distribution of white in the color. Eye color is orange.

RED SPOTTED (D 24)

Red spotted Siberian kittens know how to charm any person! It happened to me too. The first "orange" kitten was born in my cattery in autumn 2014. His name was Willie Talon. As soon as I saw him, I knew for sure - he stays with us. The small, fluffy kitten had a very showy color. He reminded me of a little sun. The older he got, the brighter his color became. And then the same story happened to his daughter - Zavala. They are my bright Champions and rays of the sun! Eye color is orange.

TURTLE OR THREE-COLORED COLORS

If you see a Siberian cat in front of you, whose fur coat is uniformly colored in spots of several colors (black-red, blue-cream), then you have a tortoiseshell cat. Such tricolor cats, according to legends, bring happiness!

Usually, when we say turtle, we mean a cat.

But, as it turned out, cats can also have a tortoiseshell color. This is very rare and, as a rule, such cats are infertile.

BLACK TURTLE SPOT (F 24)

Siberian black torte spotted kitten may have red and black spots all over the body. It is important to note that there is no requirement for the amount of red in the color. So, a kitten can be completely black, except for one toe, Siberian forest cat kitten. But he will still be considered a tortoiseshell. Its paw pads and nose mirror are black or brown, sometimes mottled pink. Eye color is orange.

FEEDING

Every week I get a lot of emails asking what to feed the Siberian kitten.

It is very important to provide the Siberian kitten with proper balanced nutrition.

How proportionally and correctly the kitten will develop, its exterior and health depends on nutrition.

If you follow my recommendations for feeding and caring, then soon a large graceful Siberian cat will grow from a small Siberian kitten.

Here are my time-tested recommendations for a balanced diet.

The animal's diet should contain:

Premium food;

Raw meat products (beef, chicken, turkey, rabbit and their offal) - at least 3 times a week;

Rice with boiled chicken - 2 times a week;

Fermented milk products (cottage cheese) - optional;

Raw quail eggs - once a week.

The Siberian kitten must have constant access to water!

He should not be kept in a cage or allowed to walk outside.

The best option for walking is a spacious aviary.

VETERINARY CARE

The Siberian kitten is a living creature that requires proper care.

Adequate care is not only about proper (balanced nutrition) and constant access to water, it is

You also shouldn't forget about comprehensive annual vaccinations as well as timely veterinary care for your furry wonder!

HOW A SIBERIAN KITTEN LOOKS AT DIFFERENT AGES

I'm sure you are interested in seeing how the Siberian kitten grows and changes. How does this little fluffy lump turn into an adult no less fluffy cat?

From the moment of birth, an exciting kitten adventure begins. And this adventure is called life. Siberian kittens are born completely blind and deaf. But, at the same time, they have excellent sense of smell and touch. This allows them to navigate in space. Now the kitten is growing and developing intensively, Siberian forest cat kitten. He sleeps 95% of the time, the other 5% eats. This is how the first few weeks of his life pass. About 2 weeks after birth, Siberian kittens open their eyes. Now they see and hear. For the first 4 weeks of its life, the kitten only eats milk that it receives from its mother. In rare cases, a special milk substitute.

The Siberian breed is undoubtedly a truly Russian cat breed. All of us from childhood met them, some at home, some just in the city on the street, some with their grandmother in the village. Strong, beautiful and unpretentious, these large fluffy cats are distinguished by their independent character.

Siberian cats are excellent hunters. Even those who were born and raised in a Moscow apartment, once in the countryside, feel great, Siberian forest cat kitten. Even outwardly, these cats retain the appearance that resembles a wild European forest cat and our golden ones in particular.

They get along well with dogs. If you take a cat with you on trips from childhood, it will perfectly tolerate long trips by car. In this regard, one day an amusing incident happened to my sister (Visalia lives with her). She and her husband were driving a car; Visalia was laying at the rear window, admiring Visalia, the driver of the car behind them crashed into them at one of the intersections. The first thing that the culprit said when he got out of the car: "What a beautiful cat you have!"

Siberians get used to the owner, not to the place, they can move with you from apartment to apartment, if only the beloved owner was with them, Siberian forest cat kitten. Kittens of our cattery are very mobile, playful and friendly with children. All of them grow up in families with children and are used to sitting on their hands a lot, communicating with babies.

The size is from medium to large, the animals are powerful, massive. Cats are noticeably larger than cats. Siberian cats are heavier and squatter than Norwegian Forest and Maine Coons.

The head is rather large in relation to the body, somewhat longer than wide, in the form of a trapezoid, gently outlined. The muzzle is broad and gently rounded. The outline is softer than that of the Maine Coon. The cheekbones are well developed and low. The nose is of medium length, wide; in profile there is a smooth transition from the forehead to the nose, without a stop. The chin is strong, but does not protrude forward, in harmony with the rounded shape of the head.

The ears are medium in size, the tips are rounded, bristles and tassels are well developed. They are set wider than the width of one ear, somewhat apart to the sides, Siberian forest cat kitten. The eyes are large, somewhat oval, set slightly obliquely, and set wide apart. Any color, evenly colored, preferably green for tabby colors.

The body is well developed, massive, strong neck, wide chest. The legs are shorter than those of the Norwegian Forest Cat. The feet are large, round, with well-developed tufts of hair. The tail is long, thick, with a rounded tip. Looks like a raccoon's tail.

The coat is half-day, well developed, very dense, the undercoat should not lie flat, and the top coat is water-repellent, rather tough to the touch. Summer coat is much shorter than winter coat. In summer, the animal can look almost like a short-haired with a fluffy tail, no collar. Winter wool is much richer: a beautiful collar grows, fluffy "pants", frill, tail becomes more pubescent.

All colors are recognized except for Abyssinian tabby, chocolate, cinnamon, lilac, fawn and their derivatives, Siberian forest cat kitten. FIFE also does not recognize the color point color, which is recognized by WCF, TICA and independent clubs.

The novice class is open only to animals born in the former USSR. Any crosses with other breeds are not allowed.

Disadvantages: too small animal or too light type; the head is long and narrow, straight profile, too round head of the Persian type; ears are too large or set too high; round eyes; legs are too long, too thin; the tail is too short; the coat is too silky and thin or tight or too little coat (except in summer).

Our kennel is working on traditional tabby colors. It seems to us that cats with tabby patterns look the most characteristic, emphatically similar to wild forest cats and therefore the most spectacular, Siberian forest cat kitten. Their outlined eyes are beautiful and expressive, stripes running from the eyes along the cheeks emphasize wide cheekbones, dark tassels stand out on lighter ears, stripes on their legs make them look like small tigers, and rings on a perfectly pubescent tail bring it to perfection. In our cattery we have the most common black tiger cats, and they resemble a snow leopard or a polar fox, silvery, and the most unusual and bright ones are golden. You can see some of them here:

It seems that everyone in our country knows and has always known this breed of cats. And you wonder how many questions it raises, how many mysteries, how many disputes around, how many passions boil!

I often have to talk to people who are far from breeding and are just interested in buying a kitten. They ask all kinds of questions ... And those who are already involved in the whirlwind of exhibitions and breeding often surprise with their views.

I would like to cite some facts that will help, I hope, learn more about the modern Siberian breed.

Actually a cultural breed, animals of which are officially registered, according to which herd books are kept, selection of pairs, has been judged on the basis of standards for quite a few years. The breed managed to achieve amazing success due to the perseverance of the breeders in such a short period: at the moment, the breed is recognized in all major associations; everywhere it has the right to receive champion titles, Siberian forest cat kitten. A large number of very high quality animals with long pedigrees, more than four tribes, were obtained. For example, in the database on the website, you can find information about more than 10 thousand Siberian animals.

The population of animals with pedigrees is constantly growing and, nevertheless, it is still not so large and the novice class is still open. This fact sometimes causes a strange, in my opinion, attitude towards the Siberian breed. Quite often such questions arise: “The mother of my cat is a Siberian cat in the second generation, and my father is a Persian. Judging by all the external signs, my cat is very similar to a Siberian. He has a chic ponytail, collar, tassels and tufts of fur between his toes. The muzzle, eyes and torso - everything corresponds, even the color is the same as I have seen in the photographs of the breed standards. I would really like to breed kittens. I really do not want to castrate him, because he is handsome and you can get beautiful and strong kittens from him. What do i do?" or “My cat has a Siberian father and a wild mother. What breed is my cat?

Strictly speaking, a true purebred Siberian cat must have a pedigree, which indicates at least three generations of judges that meet the standard of the Siberian breed of cats and cats. Some international organizations call a "full pedigree" pedigree with five generations of ancestors, Siberian forest cat kitten. I would like everyone to understand that the breeding of the Siberian breed is carried out according to the same strict rules as for many other breeds: Persian, Siamese, British ... In the same way, the standard of the Siberian breed says "crossing with other breeds is not allowed." Permission to introduce animals from the novice class into breeding is not permissive yet.

Yes, the beginner class is open for Siberian cats. This means that if a cat or kitty does not have a pedigree, but very much resembles a Siberian in appearance, then she / he can be brought to the club, to an exhibition, where two official judges will determine how much the animal meets the standard. If the animal gains a sufficient number of points, then a certificate of conformity to the breed will be issued to it, and the animal will have the right to take part in breeding work.

In good clubs, there is a breeding commission that can expertly recommend how best to use the animals for breeding. If such a club or a kennel is interested in a beginner, he or she will be recommended trial mating; perhaps even specific partners for mating will be recommended. If, as a result of mating, quality kittens are obtained, the animal will be able to continue to take part in breeding. If the kittens from this animal are not of high quality, the animal should not be further used for breeding. The longer the pedigree of an animal, the more predictable and consistent with the standard its offspring are, which is important for the development of the breed and, by the way, convenient for buyers - they buy not a "pig in a poke", but a kitten, from which an adult animal with predictable breed will grow qualities. The most valuable for the breed are animals with a long pedigree, in which there are high quality ancestors in each tribe, Siberian forest cat kitten. Very often, animals of average exterior qualities with such a pedigree, with the right selection of a partner, give outstanding offspring.

In any case, no matter what cat you bred a cat whose dad was Persian, the kittens from him will not be Siberian kittens, perhaps they will be very beautiful, but they will just be domestic kittens. Traits undesirable for the Siberian breed, characteristic of the Persian breed, will certainly appear in its descendants even after several generations. Using it in breeding the Siberian cat breed is categorically undesirable. It can be confusing to the judges, it may happen that he will be able to get two excellent marks in the beginner class, but the marks will not replace his true origin, and using him in breeding the Siberian breed will only "litter" it.

Someone will find what I have written as an elementary truth, but several striking incidents that have occurred recently make me recall this elementary truth. Surprisingly, until now some clubs, including those included in the WCF, allow mating of Siberians with Persians, issue documents from these mating descendants as supposedly "Siberian" cats. I am confident, and I think that the vast majority of Siberian breeders will support me, that the selection of newcomers should be done in the most careful way, Siberian forest cat kitten. Only the most outstanding animals should be introduced into breeding, and any of them that produce offspring that are weak in type or bearing defects should be immediately discarded. In the event that the origin of the so-called novice is known and it is known that his ancestors were animals of a different breed, then the club should definitely refuse to breed such an animal. For example, for more than a hundred years there has been a purposeful selection of ancestors necessary for the Persian breed - no mating with the most stable Siberian lines will make it possible to "kill" the qualities inherent in such an animal, they will certainly appear in the offspring. And it is surprising to justify such mating by the desire to "improve the wool" of Siberians. Siberians have always had excellent wool: medium length, very dense and completely unpretentious. To make an unnecessarily long coat out of it that requires daily care, in my opinion, is completely useless. If you like very long hair, wouldn't it be better to breed Persians or Ragamuffins? The Siberian breed has always been the most unpretentious, easy to care for, able to take care of itself on its own and look great without effort. It seems to me that this is the best breed for busy, working people and should not lose such an advantage. I never cease to wonder why when it comes to dogs, everyone understands that a mongrel will be born from a German shepherd mother and a collie father, and when it comes to a Siberian cat, such a thought about mating with a non-Siberian cat does not cause unequivocal rejection. It seems to me that it should be clear that mating with beginners is allowed not because you can knit with just anyone, but because newbies are possible, suitable for the exterior, since Siberian cats "grew" from our local population, but they have the meaning of only those animals about which there is no doubt that they could have a different, cultural origin and their ancestors have already been subjected to selection work to select the qualities needed for another breed.

Personally, I love to use animals with a long pedigree and familiar ancestors in breeding - it is such happiness when you know which of them gave what, what strengths they had on their weaknesses, how these or those lines were combined, as a result, you can decide what we will correct this quality with such a viscous, but we will improve it like this. If you decide to mate with a beginner or an animal of unknown pedigree, then this is just a lottery, and as you know, in lotteries, losses are much more frequent than winnings. "Fresh blood" is undoubtedly needed, but one must imagine that this is a difficult and long work, which may not give good results at all or will give a result in several generations.

I really want us to preserve what we have achieved, because Siberians, in terms of their efforts and results on the world stage, are no longer different from all other breeds. They are very popular in the USA, Germany, and Sweden, Siberian forest cat kitten. Catteries appear in such distant countries as Singapore, Australia, South Africa, on the Siberian Cats Cattery Search page you can find links to catteries in 34 countries of the world, and these are only those catteries that have websites on the Internet, which means there are actually many more! In recent years, descendants of the leading nurseries of Russia have more and more often entered the Best of Best contests, received the highest titles of such organizations as Fifed, TICA, and WCF. The CFA Grand Champions among Siberians have already appeared.

Of course, it is easier for animals of an unusual, exotic type of breed to attract attention. It seems to me that all bred, pedigree cats should always be something unusual. In this regard, there is some difficulty with the Siberians. On the one hand, we want to keep their familiar appearance, on the other, we want people to see them and say "Ah!" It is no secret that many people buy exactly Siberians because they have already lived with them for many years, they remember them from childhood, and they know and love their calm and unobtrusive disposition, sociability and intelligence. That is why the current trends in the breed are the gradual enlargement of animals, preference is given to animals with a heroic constitution, heavy bones, powerful, with a large head, in addition, interesting work is being done on various colors and on obtaining a beautiful, clear pattern, as well as the desired texture of the coat: with coarse topcoat and dense undercoat. It is good to hear that breeders of other breeds are paying attention, for example, to our achievements in golden colors, Siberian forest cat kitten. Even at the exhibitions of the oldest state, England, Persian breeders approached the owners of golden Siberians to ask how they managed to get such a rich warm orange undercoat and such an excellent hair color. It should be noted that the stable type is usually maintained by those nurseries that rely in breeding on animals of the most "classic" black brindle color and use inbreeding for strong breeders.
